ABOUT

Journey of Hope Community Housing LLC was formed in 2018 by the McPipe family to be a culturally specific, community-based housing solution. With backgrounds in child development, foster care, and the criminal justice system, Sharon and Jason McPipe found a drive and passion for helping the youth in their community thrive. From this passion, came a partnership with Ramsey County to open a therapeutic foster care home that provides a safe and encouraging environment for adolescents and their families.

ABOUT THE OWNERS

Sharon McPipe has always had the drive to serve others. Growing up in Hammond, Indiana, Sharon’s mother took guardianship of her sisters’ five children after a tragic incident left the children with no parents. This act of selflessness and care always stuck with her, and because of this, she realized her purpose of helping others. Living in a city where the crime rate is almost double the US average and seeing relatives as well as friends headed down the wrong path, Sharon moved her family to Minnesota in 1995 and began her career as a correctional officer. She knew she had to protect her son and nephews from heading down this path of destruction that she had seen all too often, and she did. After her only child left for college in 2001, Sharon felt that she had the time and the space to help more youth in her community, and she began foster care in Hennepin County. What started as a dream to help a few children in need became so much more. Throughout the past 19 years, Sharon has provided a safe and loving home, educational support, access to sports and activities, and more to 50+ children and family. Sharon has always had one goal for each child that comes into her home, to help them reach their highest potential. Whether this means working with the child’s family, communicating with schools and tutors to ensure high school graduation, or teaching the tough lessons that would keep the child out of the criminal justice system; Sharon has always been committed to doing what is best for each child. While in many cases, foster care ends when the child leaves the home placement; this has not been the case with Ms. McPipe. Sharon has developed lasting and life-long relationships with countless children that have been in her home. She has been to college graduations and weddings, she has cheered when they called her with news of promotion and even news of a new baby on the way. Not only has Sharon developed these lifelong relationships, but the children that have been in her home together also remain close and in contact. If you would ask Sharon what keeps her doing foster care to this day, she would tell you about all the milestones she celebrates with the children she has touched. Seeing the accomplishments and knowing the role she played to support these individuals is what reignites her passion each day.

Jason McPipe, son of Sharon McPipe and co-founder of Journey of Hope Community Housing LLC, knows Sharon’s drive and passion like no one else. Seeing the care that his mother has provided to so many he has always had a natural desire to help others, especially the youth. With a degree in Early Childhood Education as well as past positions as a PCA and an early childhood teacher, Jason has always fulfilled this need to serve. Although his career has taken a different direction, one role of his has remained constant. Jason has always been a mentor to the children in his mothers’ home. By being a positive role model, providing educational or career guidance, and just being an ear to listen throughout the tough times, Jason has developed strong bonds and lasting relationships with so many of the individuals that have been in his mother’s care. It is through this common experience of serving these youth that Sharon and Jason shared a dream to continue their mission on a larger scale, to help even more children in their community as well as their families.
